1. Mauthausen Memorial – KZ-Gedenkstatte

Mauthausen is a death camp or prison and has a significant place in history. Between the years 1938 and 1945, close to 2,00,000 people were brought here from all over Europe and 90000 of them are believed to have died here due to starvation or diseases or were killed by the Nazis. You can see monuments at the entrance that has been put up by countries that lost their people here. Once you enter, you can see gas chambers, showers as well as a crematorium. It is a place that you would not want to miss on your trip to Linz. The Stairs of Death and the quarry are horrifying.

2. Postlingbergbahn

Postlingbergbahn is a mountain tramway or a narrow gauge electric railway in Linz. The train lets you travel from the city center of Linz to the district of Postlingbergbahn which is located on a hill top. The train started in the year 1898 and has been functional since then. The old train has wooden seats and its route is scenic. You get to see the city view and Alps once you reach the top of the hill. This leisure ride is a must for those who are on a vacation to Linz.

3. Hauptplatz

Hauptplatz is the center of Linz located near Danube and is the main square. It has an area of 13200 m2. You can see a 20m high column made of white marble at the center of the square. This is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. You can spot many markets and restaurants here and Hauptplatz is also the center of various events. This is the best place to relax and appreciate the beauty of Linz.

4. Mariendom Linz

The New Cathedral or Mariendom is a Roman Catholic Church situated in Linz. It is the largest cathedral in Austria. You can see beautiful glass windows inside the cathedral. The building was completed in the year 1924 and it can accommodate close to 20000 people. The place is an architectural masterpiece and offers a lot of peace.

5. Ars Electronica Center

Come and inquire, discover, explore and experiment at the Ars Electonica Center. This place lets you experience the future. You get to see various ways of how to think and see. You may either see the place on you own or take the help of experts at the exhibits. Apart from the main exhibit called “New Views of Humankind”, a number of exhibitions run simultaneously here. There are labs that let you see how human beings have changed and how we play a big role in influencing the environment.
